The purple drink, the dark side of Sprite

Sprite is a drink that aims to be young, dynamic and refreshing. Young people are Sprite’s main target, but the Emerald drink suffers from a bad reputation linked to a mixture of drugs and Sprite, especially in the United States, the purple drank.
What is the purple drank?
Purple drank is a drink made from codeine syrup, promethazine and Sprite. This mixture has the effect of numbness, makes you euphoric and psychotropic. These effects are related to the mixture of syrup and promethazine, an asthma and allergy medicine. This explosive mixture is all the more dangerous because the products can be easily found in pharmacies.
Who are the consumers of purple drank?
According to OFDT, it is mainly young Americans between the ages of 17 and 25, this drink has spread very quickly since the 1990s via American rappers who have promoted it for its recreational benefits. These consumers are also the segment of Sprite that is then involved in this drug problem among young Americans. The drink is becoming more and more popular and is often found in student parties and is becoming a “cool” movement among young people. But this consumption can have devastating effects on young people. An overdose of the drugs in the drink can cause unwanted effects on the body as well as on the mind. Hallucinations that can endanger young people but also palpitations, vomiting and discomfort. In 2018, rapper Lil 'Peep died of an overdose of fentanyl and Xanax moments after posting a video of him consuming purple drank.
Is Sprite's reputation impacted?
The reputation of the brand is then affected by this problem because positioning itself as a young drink and via ads featuring well-known American rappers. The reputation is then damaged because Sprite focuses on young people via rap muses who are then the two factors of this scourge that is the purple drank. From my research, Sprite hides itself well on its dark side as no public apologies or press releases related to this practice have been released.
