Schweppes is a famous English drink founded by the watchmaker Johann Schweppe in 1783.
Few years later, the company moved to England, more precisely to London, to open a factory there specializing in the production of sparkling water and had very difficult beginnings because of competition and political unrest due to the war with France from 1793.
Schweppes water is favored by the medical profession, which considers its quality superior to that of other waters thanks to its carbonation process. Water is then prescribed to treat kidney disease, gallbladder disease, indigestion, and gout.
An oval-shaped bottle will then be used for years to "hold the gas" and will earn the brand the nickname of “Drunken Bottle” that does not stand up, referring to the fact that water can be mixed with rum and brandy.
Since then, the brand with the fountain logo has come a long way and is considered today as one of the world leaders in the distribution of soft drinks around the world.
In 1800, three aristocrats took control of the brand and targeted a wealthy clientele of the nobility and gentry; water is now considered a drink and not a medicine, and is quickly becoming the official supplier to the British royal family.
This link with the royal family allows the brand to accentuate its image as a drink of good British society. The brand is the exclusive supplier of "soda water" to the Crystal Palace during the six months of the exhibition, the group's drinks are sold exclusively in hotels, clubs, restaurants, theaters, ships and luxury trains targeting upper and middle class until World War II, but without ever taking a particular person as the brand's face, the term did not exist at the time
In 1930, Joséphine Baker sang at the Folies Bergère with a lemon on which appeared the name of the Schweppes brand, the first time ever the company was represented by a singular celebrity.
Today, the targeted social class is no longer the same as it was back then, now Schweppes invites all types of consumers to consume one of its 13 different flavors, each with a different sensation: we are far from the only sparkling water available with which the group started.
The oval bottle has also disappeared, now it is possible to buy the drink in the form of bottles of 1L and half, 1L or 50 CL, there is also the 33 CL can, and glass bottles for terraces and restaurants of 25 CL.
The drink linked to alcohol for its beautiful complicity with Gin in particular proves through its range of products that it is not only used for that, but has its place at the table of any family for a dinner or more refreshment to consume in order to hydrate, but even if on the official website of the brand and as if by chance, the only question to be answered in order to access the website is whether you are a minor or an adult, and that it is advisable to drink the alcohol in moderation.
